Happy Birthday Dreamcast

September 9, 2009

Today marks the  10th Anniversary of  Sega Dreamcast and it is considered the best console by a lot of people. I’m not going in detail what makes this console great because other people have done it many times. I was not a console gamer when Dreamcast was released in 9/9/99  because i played Starcraft too much. I bought my first Dreamcast in 2006 for $50 on Ebay and it came with back up copies of Powerstone , Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventures, and Crazy Taxi. I instantly fell in love with those games because they reminded me of games i played in the arcades with awesome music and colorful graphics. Soon, i started buying old games on ebay to expand my collection, but realized that wont be cheap because some games are high in price. Dreamcast will always will be in my dreams and below my TV on the shelf.

End War (Nintendo DS)

July 18, 2009

This game is not the same as the console version because DS does not have enough graphic power. The action is turn based instead of real time like consoles. There are three factions with campaign you can pick(russians, europe,USA) Russian campaign can only be unlocked when you complete US or europe campaign. There are two steps to attack your enemy 1. YOU Move (enemy selects which unit to attack) 2. YOU Select which unit to attack(enemy moves).
PROS
-When you kill enough units or destroy all targets with so many turns new maps and medal unlocked in free mode.
-Create a map feature is great to play with 2nd person in VS mode.

CONS
-The action is slow and tedious and the computer takes too long to move or attack and you cant skip.
-You can’t produce more units in your base but can only repair(some missions can’t repair)
-In mission mode you always start with less units and have to think of way to win.
-This is a single player game( no wi-fi) but it has a 2 player VS feature when you make a move give DS to other person.
- Not enough units or difference between each country.
-The fighting sequence is a rip off from advance wars games
-No voice command

I bought this great headset for $13 on  Xbox 360 with free shipping. It’s an official Motorola headset made for sports games and works with other games. It looks like  a real headset coaches use on sidelines during NFL games. It’s very durable and nice padding on ear piece. The sound quality is compared to the headset that comes with xbox360 ,but the cup ear piece makes hearing people better. The only cons is i can’t use it while the play and charge cable is connected. Armada (Sega Dreamcast)

Dreamcast had a lot of space flight sims and all of them looked the same. Armada takes a different approach to space sim genre because this is not a like the rest of games. This game has a mix of RPG elements with a space shooter. You have six races to choose from which have different story line and are all connected to each other in some way.

Controls

The ship is controlled in third person view using the analog stick and the d-pad is used to descent to and from planets. Buttons are used for primary weapon(unlimited shots),shields(limited use), and special weapon(limited use).

Game play

You start the game on your world which is being attacked by hostiles,so you have to defeat them to win the game. You can talk to people(in other ships) on your planet and sometimes they give you hints and next mission info. Once you leave your planet, you are swarmed by aliens, but are easy to defeat. For each alien you kill, you get credits to buy stuff, power ups, and experience points. Like most RPG games, the more enemies you kill the stronger your character gets. Your ship levels up automatically, and is upgraded on your home planet automatically. There are bunch of space stations where you can buy/sell stuff, like weapons, to upgrade your ship.

Also you can trade items with other stations to earn money, but is not worth it. Some missions require to kill large(boss) enemies which are easy when you at higher level. There are side missions where you have escort the various ships through space to their destination and defend them against enemies.

My Opinion Pros:

-Good Controls

-Nice Space Animation

-RPG Element -Story

-Side missions

 -Different Races

Cons:

-Constant dark space background gets boring

 -Not enough enemy variety

 -Side missions get repetitive

 -Not enough weapon variety

-Only one ship to choose from

For $10 on ebay, it’s not a bad game.
